This initiative, presented by the Minister for Digital Transformation and Public Function, Óscar López, and the Minister of Science, Innovation and Universities, Diana Morant, aims to position Spain as a leader in the quantum field.

The strategy, approved by the Council of Ministers on April 15, focuses on three key areas: computing, communications, and sensing. It aligns with the European Union’s investments and is expected to attract additional public and private funding, potentially raising the total investment to 1.5 billion euros.

Key objectives include strengthening R&D&I to facilitate market-ready research, creating a robust Spanish quantum market, preparing society for the disruptive changes brought by quantum technologies, and consolidating a coordinated quantum ecosystem. One of the first initiatives under this strategy is the creation of the Quantum Communications Hub, with a 10 million euro investment to develop use cases, promote quantum photonics research, and launch training and dissemination programs.
